When is the best time to do Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek?

Poon Hill Trek is considered to be suitable throughout the year. Though, many people prefer to travel during Autumn (September to November) and Spring (March to May). Traveling during different seasons will differ due to weather and view.
The autumn season is one of the best seasons to do Poon Hill Trek. Due to moderate and consistent weather, it will be easy to do the trek for the beginners. Also, the sky will be clearer with magnificent views of mountains and landscapes. The crowded trail is the only drawback of trekking in the Autumn season.
Spring season is considered to be the next best season for Poon Hill Trekking after Autumn Season. The weather is warmer during this time of year and is equally suitable for the trek. Though the sky will be more foggy than autumn.

Ghorepani poon hill Trek  route/ itinerary

The first day of the trek is very exciting as you will be heading towards Pokhara enjoying the scenes along the way. After 6-7 hours long drive, you will reach Pokhara, and spend the night relaxing along the lakeside.
On the next day, you will take an early morning drive to Nayapul of 2-3 hours. Nayapul is where your first day of the trek will start. Along a gravel road, you will be walking uphill. Whereas, after a few hours the road will turn into more of a trail. The first-day trek is quite easy in comparison to other days. After hiking for 5-6 hours, you will reach Tikhedhunga and that’s where you are going to spend a night.
The next day hike from Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani is quite challenging as you need to walk straight up the face of mountains. You can get a glimpse of Annapurna range with amazing views on the way which will surely increase your excitement levels. The trial will we leading through small rivers, waterfalls, and villages. After hiking for 7-8 hours, you will reach Ghorepani village and start getting a completely different vibe due to a new environment full of mesmerizing views.

Early morning, you will wake up for going to PoonHill residing at a height for 3210m. You can find people from different countries to capture the sunrise just above the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges from this viewpoint. Snapping the memories of this place with you, the trek to the Tadapani for the night will start.

The fourth day will be the Trek from Tadapani to Ghandruk. After hiking for 9-10 hours, you will reach an incredible town of Ghandruk. The trail is just amazing with full of rhododendron forest and lots of uphills and downhills. The view you will get after reaching Ghandruk, makes you want to stay there for more than a month. In this village of the Gurung community, you can stay in Homestay welcoming their warm hospitality. The museum, where you can view and try their traditional dress and click pictures, is also amazing.

Taking all the beautiful memories of the trek with you, you will be returning to Nayapul. Taking the different route of Syauli Bazaar, following the river through the forest, Nayapul will arrive. As the trek concludes here, you will be returning to Pokhara after a few hour's drive. Taking a rest for a night in Pokhara, you can take the early morning bus to Kathmandu.

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek Cost

The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek cost entirely depends upon the season you are traveling, the number of persons, days, the route you are taking and personnel expenses. Poon Hill Trek permit cost will be only of TIMS card and ACAP permit. The cost of the TIMS card is US$ 18 for individual trekkers and $10 for trekking in a group. Similarly, ACAP permit cost around US$20 per person. You need to carry these permits along with you as they will check on various checking points.
Hiring a guide in Nepal is very easy and cheap. If you want to hire a guide or porter, the cost of porter is $15 per day and the guide is $25 per day. They will help you to learn about the place in more detail as they are familiar with the place.

Thereafter, the cost may vary in peak season and rise slightly. You can book lodges and hotels earlier for your easiness. Also, the more facilities you use the cost rises more. Lastly, you need to pay Rs 100 as an entrance fee in Poon Hill Gate so remember to keep some cash along with you.

Trekking Equipment Required

As Poon Hill Trek is one of the easy and short treks in Nepal, there won’t be a need for heavy trekking equipment.
Light packing including all the necessary equipment will make your trek more comfortable. During warmer season, light clothes will be enough whereas for trekking in winter season we suggest you to add warmer clothes.
Hiking boots, Hiking sticks ( For more comfortable trek) are necessary for the trek which can be easily found for rent or buying in Thamel, Kathmandu.
